Education

Education is just as essential to our members’ lives as employment. Many members have had their education interrupted by the onset of their mental illness. Our education program restores confidence for members in navigating the education system in pursuit of their GED, Trade School, Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

Education programs at Independence Center are one more component in enabling members to achieve their employment goals. In fact, returning to school or finishing a degree is another top desire of adults with mental illnesses, especially those who are younger and newly diagnosed. Education staff meet with members to identify education goals and needs, working one-on-one to create individualized plans or providing assistance where needed. Members can be students, but they are also encouraged to become peer tutors.
