Community Care![]() The Community Care Program is a Barnes-Jewish Hospital program offered through Independence Center, and offers a unique day program geared towards helping individuals who are experiencing symptoms of their illness in a community setting. Community Care can help when the symptoms of mental illness return, when medication adjustments are needed or when a person's condition gets worse but does not need hospitalization. Through group and individual therapies, clients can enhance their coping skills, understand and better manange their medications and receive peer and professional support. The Community Care team includes registered nurses, licensed clinical social workers, an art therapist, Washington University psychiatrists and residents. In addition, clients at Community Care have lunch at Independence Center's clubhouse program, which gives them an opportunity to become acquainted with the Center's other programs and services. To be eligible, participants will need a referral from their current doctor, and social worker, community support worker or family member can assist with this referral process.
