Residential Program

Independence Center is a leader in designing affordable and attractive residential and independent housing communities for its members. Each apartment building owned and operated by Independence Center meets code for both the local municipality as well as for HUD. This helps ensure we meet our mission of providing decent, safe and affordable housing. Additionally, members are encouraged to decorate their apartment to reflect their own personal tastes and style.

Laclede Apartments has 20 fully furnished one-bedroom apartments. Located in the Central West End, this facility has a first-floor community room with laundry facilities. Laclede Apartments are located a short walk from Independence Center, and public transportation and amenities are readily available.

Lohmeyer Apartments, located in Maplewood, offers 20 efficiency units, all of which are completely and comfortably furnished. There is also a common community room available to all residents. Lohmeyer Apartments is very close to shopping and major bus lines to help members maintain their independence.

Newstead Place in the city (also within walking distance of Independence Center) and Jane Howell Stupp Apartments in the county are the Center's innovative solution to providing wholesome and affordable housing for members who require 24-hour oversight. Each home provides housing for 15 members. Staff are on-site 24 hours a day and meals are provided. Staff also dispense medications and assist residents in mastering independent living skills.
